The Taigei-class submarines are the successors to the Soryu-class. The first submarine, Taigei, was commissioned in March 2022, followed by the second submarine, Hakugei, in March of the following year. While externally similar to the Soryu-class, they feature higher-capacity, higher-output lithium batteries, improving their submergence capabilities.
