BACK COVER The Word as Territory records twenty years of the Bartolomeu Testimonials Center, since its creation in 2000. The fourteen plays staged by the group since then are presented here in full and chronologically, with original images and texts from the scripts from the time of the staging, as well as analytical essays specially written for this edition.. Despite its enormous stage presence, this research work, centered on the junction, and friction, of concepts from Brechtian epic theater and urban hip-hop culture, also starts from words, which leads the artistic collective to create an innovative and dynamic theatrical language.. Their presentations revolve, for example, around testimony, self-representation, the performance of DJs and actresses/actors MCs, who make use of samples and spoken word. (spoken poetry) and slams (spoken word competitions) to create universes and discuss facts and events that affect us as a society and individuals within it. Hence, the texts posted here could not be a mere “frozen image” of what was, but a reflection on what is being, part of a journey that is far from over and that expands its territory beyond the stage and also these pages..
