The GMW-B5000 series retains the design of the first G-SHOCK, the "DW-5000C" released in 1983, and is now full metal, with advanced features such as smartphone link. A full metal case is realized by the impact-resistant structure with a fine resin shock absorber sandwiched between the stainless steel metal bezel and the main case. The size is maintained through high-density mounting technology. It uses a screw back case with a solid feel, and has been treated with DLC for excellent wear resistance. The metal band piece is dimpled, inheriting the resin band design of the first model. It uses film solar cells and STN-LCD (liquid crystal). The face is made of glass vapor deposited in a bright green color and has texture printing. In terms of functionality, it connects to a dedicated app via Bluetooth® communication, acquires time information, and keeps accurate time. It also has practical features such as a time adjustment system using standard radio waves (multiband 6), stable drive using tough solar, high brightness fully automatic LED backlight, world time, and day of the week display in 6 languages. It is a G-SHOCK that inherits its origins but is even more sophisticated with full metal construction.
